Cancer Treatment at CRH

Understanding Cancer Treatment Options

Our Cancer Center provides a full spectrum of advanced treatment options, delivered by experienced specialists who work together to ensure coordinated, compassionate care.

Our Cancer Center treats nearly all forms of cancer. A patient’s care may include a combination of any of the three major treatment types — surgery, chemotherapy/immunotherapy, and radiation.

All of these are provided under one roof and on an outpatient basis, when applicable, to make things as convenient as possible for patients.

Surgical Oncology

Surgery remains one of the most common and effective treatments for many types of cancer. For patients requiring surgery, our Advanced Surgical Oncology program offers expertise in complex cancer procedures, including minimally invasive and da Vinci robotic-assisted techniques designed to remove tumors while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.

When needed, our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team is available to support recovery, restore appearance, and improve quality of life following cancer surgery.

Breast Cancer Surgery Options

For patients with breast cancer, we offer both breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy) and mastectomy, depending on the cancer’s stage and location.

Our Multidisciplinary Breast Health Program brings together breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and nurse navigators to create personalized care plans for individuals with breast cancer, ensuring seamless and coordinated care from diagnosis through recovery.

Our breast health specialists work closely with you to determine the best surgical option for your unique needs.

Breast-Conserving Surgery

In order to be a candidate for breast conservation (generally referred to as a Lumpectomy) the cancer needs to be localized to a relatively small area of the breast so that we can encompass it with a lumpectomy, obtain clear margins and still have enough breast tissue left such that there is no major deformity.

Mastectomy

Patients who have very large cancers or cancer cells scattered over a large portion of the breast are not candidates for breast conservation and therefore require a mastectomy. Some patients may prefer a mastectomy even if they are a candidate for breast conservation. Radiation is usually not necessary after a mastectomy.

Prostate Cancer Surgery Options

For eligible patients with prostate cancer, surgery may be recommended to remove the prostate and surrounding tissue. At CRH, we perform robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy using the da Vinci surgical system, which allows for smaller incisions, greater precision, and typically faster recovery.

Our team works closely with urologists and medical oncologists to ensure a personalized surgical plan based on each patient’s diagnosis, cancer stage, and overall health.

Colorectal Cancer Surgery Options

Surgery is often the first step in treating colon cancer. At CRH, our experienced surgeons perform minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures to remove the affected portion of the colon while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.

While we manage many colon cancer cases locally, more complex colorectal procedures, including most rectal cancer surgeries, are referred to specialized centers to ensure the highest standard of care.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Our plastic and reconstructive surgery services are an important part of the healing journey for many cancer patients. Whether you’re considering breast reconstruction after mastectomy, skin reconstruction after tumor removal, or other procedures to restore form and function, our skilled surgeons are here to support your recovery—physically and emotionally.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy uses high-energy beams to target and destroy cancer cells.

Our Radiation Oncology team uses precise, targeted therapies to eliminate cancer while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Depending on the type and stage of cancer, radiation may be used on its own or in combination with surgery or chemotherapy. Treatments are carefully planned using advanced imaging and technology to ensure the highest level of accuracy and effectiveness.

Hematology & Medical Oncology

Medical oncology focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancer using medications such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies. Medical oncologists work closely with other cancer specialists to develop personalized treatment plans and provide ongoing support throughout a patient’s cancer journey.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses powerful medications to kill or slow the growth of cancer cells. Our infusion center offers a comfortable, supportive setting for outpatient chemotherapy treatments, all supervised by experienced oncology nurses and physicians.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy helps your own immune system fight cancer more effectively. This innovative approach can be used for certain cancers like melanoma, lung, and some blood cancers, often with fewer side effects than traditional treatments.

Targeted Therapy

Targeted therapy is one of the most advanced tools we use to treat cancer. This treatment focuses on the specific genes, proteins, or molecular pathways that help cancer cells grow and survive—offering a more personalized approach than traditional chemotherapy.

Hormone Therapy

Hormone therapy is an important part of our comprehensive approach to treating certain types of cancer. This treatment is designed to block or lower the hormones that fuel the growth of specific cancers, such as breast or prostate cancer.

Interventional Pulmonology

Interventional pulmonology uses advanced, image-guided techniques to diagnose and treat conditions of the lungs, airways, and pleural space—often without the need for traditional surgery. These procedures provide less invasive options for patients with complex pulmonary conditions, including lung cancer, airway obstruction, and pleural disease.
